I’ve been busy with work since I got back from SDCC. We are getting ready to go online with our class so there is much to be done. I am still working on my own stuff too though, just haven’t had the time to get a post together.

My current project is a pair of zBrush sculpts featuring He-Man and Battlecat. Here is some progress of Battlecat. He is still pretty rough, but I am moving a lot faster with it than my last zBrush sculpt. I had a big fight with zSpheres on this one. I probably redid the zSphere configuration 6 times! But I learned a lot about zSpheres so it’s all good :) I am excited for zBrush 3.5 to come out this month. zSpheres2 looks amazing and I am looking forward to playing with it.

I have also have a sculpture I am doing for work for an online tutorial. It is a mad scientist character created by one of my coworkers. I should have photos of that pretty soon. He’s totally out of my style, super cartoony. I really love working off of someone else’s artwork!

As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve been doing work with Joy & Tom Studios, learning cool new stuff about molding, casting, and production. I have an opportunity to help out with some pretty big projects so that’s really exciting! The artists Joy and Tom are a pair of awesome people, very talented and helpful. I am really happy to be working with them.

Finally, my book is coming back to life again slowly. I am really hoping to have it done for SDCC next year.

Thanks for watching, people. I’ll be around :)

fridgeDexter

….creepy! But Dexter is happy because he has shoulders now! By the way, I put my sculptures in the freezer sometimes when the clay gets soft and I am trying to do fine detailing. It’s in the 90’s in Florida right now, so I had to pop Dexter in the freezer a few times this weekend as I was working on him. I’ve done more tweaking on him since this photo. The changes keep getting smaller and smaller. I will upload some real progress photos tomorrow. I didn’t get around to working on Wolvie this weekend afterall. I need to get cracking on him soon here!

My husband and I finally got around to getting a new printer. It arrived on Friday. So far, it seems great. I need to try some high quality printing on it and see what happens. I will be printing all my portfolios with this guy so hopefully it prints decently. We went with this Canon MP620. Wireless printing is awesome :)

More Progress on Dexter

May 1, 2009

This has been my first real attempt at creating a likeness. It’s very tedious, making lots of small adjustments, stepping back, correcting them, realizing I took a smidge too much clay off, etc….This is slowly starting to look more like Dexter but still has a ways to go. I must say, taking the photos helps a lot to see what needs work in specific. I might try overlaying the main photo I am working from on one of the sculpture photos.

I’ll be working on him some more tomorrow at work. I ended up making this piece a touch bigger than I planned. I will be raising him up some so he can have shoulders and not just a creepy floating head haha!

Hooray for weekends!

Welcome!

July 13, 2008

I am Emily Coleman of rainbowdusk.com.  I am a sculptor, and I’ve created this blog to show the process of my art, up coming projects, finished works, and more.  While my website shows all of my completed works, I want to give my viewers more of an insight of how I work.

I currently work at Full Sail University in the Computer Animation Department.  I am the Lead Lab Instructor for Objective Perspective, which is the traditional art basics class all the students get before even touching Maya.  I am in the process of writing my own book on how to sculpt, working towards getting myself out into the movie/game/entertainment industry, teaching myself zBrush, and preparing for several upcoming gallery showings.

I am looking forward to becoming a more interactive artist.  Hope to talk to you soon!
